Discussion Decorum

Requirement four is to blog about it here first. You may and are encouraged to blog about it and discuss it elsewhere. The reason to do it here first is primarily to ensure that the goal of reading and discussing the Institutes of the Christian Religion together actually occurs.

It does not matter if this site gets hit by a bunch of people and makes us all amazingly popular for reading Calvin’s Institutes. Like that would ever happen anyway. It does matter though if there is edification of the Church that occurs here. If we just get more facts about Calvin and his theology then we fail. If we just get more personal edification then we fail. If we grow together then we succeed and this little experiment works.

To be bound with Christ means that we are to be bound also with his Church. We must be polite in our discussions. A few moderators such as Will Adair will have editorial control but likely will not use it. We trust everyone is going to act like grown ups and not politicians.

7 Rules
1. Show respect for others. Practice cordial decorum.
2. Write in English. Share your thoughts, insights, questions, and ideas from your reading.
3. Keep your writing between four and five hundred words when possible. This isn’t a dissertation. Brevity is a virtue.
4. Respond to questions asked in comments.
5. Give your name, basic info, and contact links in each post. Example Will Adair located in Wilmington NC, USA on twitter & facebook Blog at http://willadair.com
6. Keep discussion on whatever topic is at hand.
7. Update regularly as possible.

Requirements for the 2010 Challenge

1. Acquire a copy of the Institutes, 4th (1560) edition in English.

2. Pray that God will show himself to you before every reading.

3. Promise to finish it by the end of the year unless you die, global unrest makes it impossible, or you become maimed and can’t read it. If the first happens hopefully you can discuss it with Calvin in person. If the last two occur then you are excused from reading it. If the last occurs you may want to have some one read it to you.

4. Blog about it here. Comment below, get added as a user, and follow the guidelines. This will be posted in another post and page.

5. Follow the monthly reading schedule. This will be posted in another post and page.

6. Interact with those who post on this site. Discuss it and promote this site particularly what you write.

7. Encourage your fellow Institutes sojourners. Hopefully by January 2011 the Spirit will have grown you closer to your global brothers and sisters in Christ.

8. Learn the joy of being bound with Christ.
